(2023/05/26) Break Week + X-Talk: Pacing in Hindsight

Updated: Dec 27, 2023

Hey there, X-Fans!

It's a break week which means a little sharing of something else - though not about what makes the movies stand out to me this time. This time I want to share something on Envisionings itself.

The first Volume may be over but here's a little behind-the-scenes let-in: it isn't precisely finished - there are many things I see now I would change, and in Issue #0 as well, for the re-release "In Full Colour!" whenever I partner with an artist (or perhaps I'll circle back around on my own before then, but moving on is the ticket for now).

In the interest of it, I wanted to share one such change I would make, that being to the pace of Cyclops & Jean Grey's relationship. When I originally conceived of this series, the idea not to rush back in would persist beyond Issue #0 , though would've wound up with an evitable "re-falling" -not quite an accurate term- for each other, with them "dating" in what became Vol.#1, and then begin to be fully together in what has become Vol.#2.

'But wait-' I'd thought to myself, 'having them date is ridiculous! (Plus) This is Scott & Jean we're talking about! They wouldn't wait* to get back together.'

*In original conceit, as well, there was a longer gap between events than exists presently.

Of course there is that bit about Jean's "reason" for being back and that they may likely be wrenched apart again - that's what I needed to lean into. Cyclops had just come to a good place in his "new normal" after "letting go", and they wouldn't want to derail / upend things again.

But this is Cyclops & Jean Grey.

So a change I would make is that they do "hold back", but then at the point in Vol.#1 when Jean comes to lay with Scott that night after all her emotions spilled over, that would mark their "back together moment" (it's kind of silly when I think how it's presently written!) - in effect being the moment when they both decide/realize, that in what time they have left they want only to have it together.

"Oh well!" for Vol. #1 (for now) --My sights are set on fewer "we'll fix that the next go around" moments for Volume #2 ! Which is already set with a new, more dynamic start! Whatever might've already gone down, you won't want to miss what's coming up!

See you there, X-Fans! (I've no doubt I will!)
